About Russell Elementary School

The William E. Russell Elementary School Lions are a diverse group of talented, hard-working and energetic K-5 students, teachers, staff and members of the Boston community.

We believe in an education that provides access and opportunity for all students. Through implementation of curriculum, community resources, a passion for education and our tremendous community here at Russell Elementary – we are improving student outcomes – both academically, and social-emotionally.

We are proud to feature literacy support programs, full-day K1 early childhood programs, and full-time instructors in science, computers, the arts and physical education. Students learn about nature and sustainability in our outdoor classroom and community garden. Technology is also an important part of the classroom with smart boards, iPads, computers and cameras.

We are fortunate to have many amazing community partners in the city of Boston who support our students’ growth throughout the school day, as well as before and after school through a variety of programs and opportunities for learning. Community partners include organizations such as: Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester, Harvard, Playworks, Community Music Center of Boston, The Stepping Stone Academy and more.

Students participate in destination learning experiences to sites like Hale Reservation, Harbor Islands, Museum of Science, Wakefield Estate, Plymouth Plantation and the Aquarium
